Pete Williams Reporting with FlipCam
I enjoyed watching a couple of Spring Training reports by Pete Williams, both involving the relatively inexpensive and easy-to-use FlipCam. Pete says he held the camera himself in one report, and persuaded a fan-from-the-stands to help with another. I’ve added a link to a slightly older and less expensive version (just over $100) of the FlipCam via Poynter’s Amazon Associates program over there in the right rail. That one enables users to store up to 60 minutes of video; newer, more expensive models (just under $200) provide two hours. Cheaper prices at eBay, of course.
Among the advantages of this handy little video camera is the ability to upload the video immediately via a USB connector that flips out the side of the camera and plugs right into the USB port on the side of your laptop. You can then edit and upload directly to YouTube, Vimeo or other sides, and embed your video into your site. Good audio has been a problem in some circumstances with this camera, but I believe some models now come with an audio input option for a remote mic. You’ll want to check reviews online if you’re interested in this sort of device, and I’m sure Pete would be glad to offer advice to anyone interested.
